Early Life & Education
Born in Santo Domingo in 1946, Perdomo recognized his artistic vocation at an early age. By fifteen, he was studying at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes while simultaneously training under two of the Dominican Republic’s most influential modern masters, Paul Giudicelli and Gilberto Hernández Ortega. In the mid-1960s, Perdomo continued his artistic development in the United States, where he studied with internationally respected artists including Luis Camnitzer and the renowned Abstract Expressionist Robert Motherwell. His search for artistic growth later took him to Peru and Brazil, where he immersed himself in the study of pre-Columbian cultures, including the Nazca Lines and the artistic traditions of the Andes. These experiences broadened his artistic vision while deepening his understanding of symbolism, myth, and cultural memory. Returning permanently to the Dominican Republic in 1983, Perdomo developed the distinctive visual language that would define his mature career.
